#SKINBABE: Katie Stam Irk
Each #SkinBabe will help us share confidence, gain confidence and inspire confidence!
Katie Stam Irk owns a crown. Yes, a real crown complete with bling and a fancy title. Katie Stam Irk grew up nearby me in Seymour, Indiana. Katie was crowned Miss America 2009. I remember watching the LIVE show and being SO proud that Indiana won! I then got to meet Katie a few years later through my work as an on-air TV journalist and was even more proud to see a such a confident, kind woman representing Indiana.
I've watched Katie's journey from afar over the last few years and continue to be incredibly impressed at how she prioritizes her husband, their family and her faith. Katie also uses her platform to motivate and inspire others. Katie is passionate about showcasing her Hoosier community through her work with Visit Indiana. AND, Katie is a NEW author. Katie just released her first book Merely Moving Shadows, which is a 10-week devotional guide based on Psalm 39:4-7.
"'Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered – how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.’ We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it. And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.”
Each week (chapter) tackles a concept that you will encounter along your life's journey and how God calls us to respond to each. The ten topics covered in Merely Moving Shadows are timing, beauty, discontentment, conviction, forgiveness, strength, purpose, fear, relationships, and success.
In this week's feature, #SkinBabe Katie Stam Irk reminds all of us that skincare shouldn't be complicated. Katie prefers a more basic skincare routine - and, as you can see, this gorgeous lady hasn't aged a day since she won that crown! Katie makes it a priority to incorporate self-care into her hectic week to ensure her skin is clean - because this #SkinBabe knows that clean skin is healthy skin!

What Does #SkinBabe mean to You?
Being a #SkinBabe is not just about investing time, energy, and resources into having good skin. Being a #SkinBabe is making the decision to take a little time for yourself on a regular basis. As a mom of three littles, it's committing to sitting in the tub once a week after the kids are asleep to relax, get back to center, and feel like a confident woman.
Why Do You Like Skincare, #SkinBabe?
I love the way I feel after taking the time to "pamper" myself. Yes, I do it to take care of my skin, but it also brings me joy and confidence.
What's Your Biggest MUST DO for Your Skin, #SkinBabe?
EXFOLIATE! Not just your face, your WHOLE body. I love body scrubbers and use them on a regular basis.
What's Your Current Face Routine, #SkinBabe?
I don't have a consistent routine outside of making sure all makeup is off before I go to bed. Some nights I do an extra exfoliation, some nights I do a mask, it all depends on how tired I am and how much time I have. Every once and awhile I like to go to IndyLaser in Carmel for a facial. Usually before a big event. It makes me feel extra special.
AM/PM Routine
- Wash my face with Clean and Clear Deep Pore Cleanser
- Cetaphil face lotion
- Retinol-based eye cream Korres Natural
What's a Product You Can't Live Without, #SkinBabe?
Face wash!
Honestly, I don't have any splurges. I don't think you have to splurge to have good products. Years ago, I actually developed my own skincare line. In doing research and working with a chemist on raw ingredients, she made a comment that has stayed with me for years. She talked about not spending too much money on a face wash because it stays on your skin for mere seconds. It doesn't have to be fancy, it doesn't have to have all kinds of interesting ingredients because it's not on your face long enough to do anything - it just has to make sure to get you clean. Clean skin is healthy skin!
Who's Your Favorite #SkinBabe?
Miss America 2017 Savvy Shields! Savvy is beautiful and natural! She talks a lot about skincare routines and I’ve learned a lot from her.
